Many animal studies on Drosophila melanogaster, Zebrafish, and other species require procedures performed at the smallest scale under high magnification. At that level, the tips of probes and dissection tools need to be fine enough to allow the manipulation of the object of the study. Needles and pins with fine tips can be used when standard dissecting needles are not fine enough for dissections. Pins and needles are also ideal for the dissection of flower buds in early developing phases and of vegetative shoot apices. Shoot apical meristems have small structures in a very small area. With sharp pins and needles, force can be applied more precisely at the desired location without damaging the surrounding area. These fine needles made of hard tungsten have a 1 µm tip diameter. They can be used for micro dissection at the finest level. The material is much harder than stainless steel therefore it offers increased stability with less spring action. The needles are 1-1/2” long for easy handling. Insert the needles deeper into the needle holder to gain lateral stability or leave a longer piece out to increase flexibility. Sharp point tungsten needles can be loaded in any of these needle holders: RS-6060, RS-6061, RS-6062. Needle holders should be long enough so that they can rest between the thumb and the index finger.RS-6060 is our lightest and longest needle holder made of aluminum. It weighs only 8.8 grams.
